Students, faculty, staff and administration viewed a partial solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. SPHS science teachers and students from the Astronomy Club set up a large viewing telescope, provided special-purpose, solar-filtered sunglasses and experimented with pinhole viewers made out of index cards, paper plates and cardboard. Additionally, the SPMS science department shared the science behind the eclipse with middle schoolers, and the SPMS ASB purchased special viewing glasses for all students. SPUSD elementary students also participated in a wide variety of viewing activities on each campus using the necessary safety precautions.
