Professional Development Day

The students were away, but schools were abuzz with activities on October 4, 2021 during professional development day for SPUSD faculty and staff.

Elementary teachers met at Arroyo Vista for training on the new TWIG Science curriculum, a program created specifically for Next Generation Science Standards. TWIG Science offers unique, instructional design challenges that allows students to experience dozens of different STEM roles as they become creative problem solvers.

Secondary teachers met at the middle school and high school to continue their Anti-Defamation League (ADL) anti-bias training. Thanks to funding from a South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF) grant, teachers at both schools have participated in sessions focused on examining and challenging bias.

Instructional aides met at the District Office boardroom where they learned more about autism spectrum disorder and behavioral strategies to support students with unique needs.
We’re so proud of our teachers and staff who work hard every day to make sure they are well prepared to use standards-aligned curriculum, greet students with open minds, and assist students in new ways.
