Back-To-School Information

July 24, 2020

Dear SPUSD Parents/Guardians,

As you may have seen in the most recent District communication, SPUSD schools will be physically closed at the start of the 2020-2021 school year, and all students will participate in 100% distance learning.

In the next few weeks, individual school sites will be sending several key pieces of information that need to be read closely and responded to in a timely manner. The following is an outline of what you can expect to see. Please note that specific details pertaining to each topic will be coming to you from your child’s school principals or from the SPUSD technology department.

Back-To-School 2020
Parent Informational Webinars: These informational webinars will take place within the next week and will include details about the 2020-2021 approved instructional models - both hybrid and distance learning - linked here. For additional information about the instructional models, you may also view the July 16, 2020 school board presentation.

Student Data Confirmation: Between July 24-31, 2020, you will be asked to review and verify the annual parent notifications and to verify your child’s information through the parent portal. This year, data confirmation includes revised forms and a section where parents will choose between continuing with distance learning when schools physically reopen or continuing with in-person instruction. Please review this information carefully.

Technology Distribution: Starting this year, SPUSD will be a “one-to-one” district meaning that every student will be issued to a Chromebook at the beginning of the school year. Chromebooks will be distributed in early August.

Textbooks and Supplies: Many students may need textbooks or specific supplies for their classes. These materials will be distributed by each school at various times near the start of the school year. Principals will be sharing more detailed information about each school’s pick up time closer to the first day of school, August 13, 2020.

Instructional Calendar: In general, this school year will follow the previously published instructional calendar; however, events such as back-to-school night, parent-teacher conferences, etc. may be adjusted and offered remotely. Again, each principal will share these details with you throughout the year.

Additional Information: Please refer to the District website or your individual school’s website for up-to-date information pertaining to the school year. Instructional models and additional resources may be found under SPUSD Instructional Services.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate a fully remote start to the 2020-2021 school year. We appreciate everything you do and look forward to a successful year ahead.

Regards,

Christiane Gervais
Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services
